[Anonymous]: Birds. Full sheet of decorated paper with full untrimmed margins. Block-printed in three colours (black, dark yellow, red) on natural-coloured paper. Germany (?), ca. 1830/40. 46,1 x 37,5 cm.
A rare design, printed on hand-made laid paper. Heijbroek / Greven reproduces an 18th century variant of this design (cf. p. 75). I have seen a colour variant of this paper, used as pastedowns in a binding dated "1848" to front cover, including a German book printed in Wernigerode in 1788. – Provenance: Private collection, Hesse / Germany. – Unused. Tipped to recent white light cardboard. Several short tears and slight creasing to outer margins. Light water stain to lower margin. Else fine.
