With an additional portrait of Caesar bound in. 16 ff., 296 ff. -- Elegant dark-green-blue morocco richely gilt by DEROME LE JEUNE (with his engraved ticket), liners and endleaves of salmon-pink watered-silk; gilt edges. In modern green lined cloth case with ligth-brown label gilt lettered. Spine only slightly faded, otherwise in remarkably good condition. At the end a pencil collation note by Quaritch, London.
An outstanding, broad-margined unique copy of this special book of the second (1518) editon (reprinted from the first edition of 1513) and with the last 32 leaves supplied from the first edition (1513). This copy was bound for the eminent Aldine collector & bibliographer ANTOINE-AUGUSTE RENOUARD (1765-1853) with his shelf mark no. in brown ink "No 1219+" on upper second flyleaf. See Renouard's own remarks to this outstanding unique 'mixed' copy in his bibliographical work "Les Aldes", p. 88, no. 11 with extensive commentary to this special copy.
