Collection of four autograph poems (together 54 lines), each signed “Marlene” or “Marlene D.”, together with one early portrait postcard signed “Marlene.” Undated.
A charming and highly personal group of unpublished love poems, all addressed to an unidentified recipient and revealing Dietrich's playful, flirtatious side. Written in simple, song-like verses, they revolve around themes of longing, desire, and courtship. One begins: "Du schreibst Du willst mich treffen / Soll ich? / Soll ich nicht? / So frag ich alle Blumen / Und Vöglein die ich seh ... / Du schreibst Du willst mich küssen – / Es braucht ja niemand wissen! / Soll ich?" A second poem humorously compares love to indulging in sweets: "Nascht Du auch gern? / Ich nämlich sehr. / Und grad Dich sucht ich mir aus dazu ... / Nascht Du denn auch so gern wie ich???" The longest of the poems is an affectionate invitation to a carefree romance, explicitly rejecting solemn promises in favour of a joyful encounter: "Ich verlang' keinen Ernst / Keine dauernde Liebe / Auch nicht, daß es immer so bliebe ... / Sieh her die Rosen in meinem Schoß / Sie sind so rot zum Küssen ... / Komm' doch und spiel' mit mir!!!" The accompanying early portrait postcard shows a youthful Marlene Dietrich, still with the somewhat fuller features of her early years, wearing a coat and hat and holding a fan in her right hand. It is boldly signed “Marlene.” A delightful and intimate ensemble, illustrating Dietrich's gift for light-hearted, lyrical expression and preserving a rare glimpse into her private, romantic correspondence.
