Collection of two U.S. immigration and visa documents. United States / Paris, 1946. Comprising: (1) An “Affidavit in Support of Application for Non-Immigrant Visa,” dated 21 March 1946, extensively completed in Marlene Dietrich's hand and signed by her, with notarial certification. In this affidavit, Dietrich acts as sponsor for Adolphe Holländer, then residing in Paris. She provides detailed information concerning her annual income (in excess of US$100,000), financial assets, residence in Beverly Hills, and her occupation as an actress under contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. (2) An “Application for Nonimmigrant Visa,” American Foreign Service, Paris, dated 1 April 1946, signed by Adolphe Holländer and accompanied by his passport photograph. Born 4 December 1896 in Bielitz (then Austria, now Poland), Holländer is described as stateless, residing at Rue Charles Dickens, Paris. The stated purpose of his journey is to visit relatives in the United States for a period of three months. The visa was issued on 5 April 1946. Both documents bear official stamps, seals, and consular signatures. Slightly browned and showing minor signs of handling consistent with age; overall in very good condition. An important historical document from the immediate post-war period, illustrating Marlene Dietrich's active role as sponsor and guarantor for European émigrés. A rare and significant ensemble combining an autograph document, an original identification photograph, and a compelling testimony to post-war migration history.
