Gris verstarb 1927 und hatte bis dahin lediglich zehn der ursprünglich vorgesehenen zwanzig Gouachen produziert - das endgültige Werk erforderte daher eine neue Konzeption für die Illustrationen der zwanzig Gedichte. Die elfte Lithografie basiert auf der Original-Gouache, die Juan Gris noch zu Lebzeiten für dieses Projekt anfertigte und freundschaftlich Henriette Reverdy widmete. Das Werk trägt den Titel Moulin à café, tasse verte sur une table (1915) und befindet sich heute in der Sammlung des Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Inventarnummer DE01558). Es wurde in Kohle, Bleistift und Gouache auf Papier ausgeführt. Die Suite vereint in ihrer Zusammenstellung die formale Klarheit und geometrische Strenge im Spätwerk von Juan Gris mit der poetischen Sprache Reverdy's. Mit ihrer verzögerten Publikation und reduzierten Illustrationszahl zählt die Mappe zu den wenigen großen kubistischen "Livre d'artiste"-Projekten und verdeutlicht, wie Gris' visionäre Planung auch über seinen Tod hinaus wirksam blieb. With 11 color lithographs based on gouaches by Juan Gris. – Printed by Mourlot, Paris. – The portfolio Au Soleil du Plafond originated from a collaboration between Juan Gris and the poet Pierre Reverdy, conceived as early as 1925 but only realized in 1955. Gris died in 1927, having produced only ten of the originally planned twenty gouaches – the final work therefore required a new conception for illustrating the twenty poems. The eleventh lithograph is based on the original gouache that Juan Gris still completed during his lifetime for this project and dedicated, as a token of friendship, to Henriette Reverdy. The work bears the title Moulin à café, tasse verte sur une table (1915) and is now held in the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (inventory number DE01558). It was executed in charcoal, pencil, and gouache on paper. In its composition, the suite unites the formal clarity and geometric rigor of Juan Gris's late work with the poetic language of Reverdy. With its delayed publication and reduced number of illustrations, the portfolio ranks among the few major Cubist "livre d'artiste" projects and demonstrates how Gris's visionary planning remained effective even beyond his death.
