La Sainte Bible traduite sur les textes originaux avec les différences de la Vulgate. Cologne, aux dépens de la Compagnie, 1739 17 : 11 cm. Title-frontispiece designed by Picart and engraved by Yrer, 3 leaves, 884 pages. Contemporary full red calf on 5 raised bands, spine richly gilt with floral motifs, back lable, gilt filets on boards, edges gilt.
Very nice copy of this rare Bible, printed in small caracters in two collums, in a marvolouse binding from the 18th century, perfectly conserved. The translater Nicolas Le Gros (1675 - 1751) Jansenist (Jansenism was a 17th- and 18th-century theological movement within the Catholic Church, primarily active in France, which arose as an attempt to bring together the theological concepts of free will and divine grace in response to certain developments in the Catholic Church) who had to flee to the Netherlands in 1726. - Missing pages 381-392 which probably have been never bound in, there are no signs that they have been torn out. - A lovely copy in a spectacular binding.
