Thomas Allason, (1790-1852), was an architect who visited Greece in 1814 on a sketching tour, where he claimed to be the first to spot convexity on the shafts of Greek columns, and collected the drawings for his Views of Pola. Few of the buildings he designed have survived, but perhaps his most enduring legacy is his work on Connaught Square, and the Ladbroke Estate in Kensington, London. Pola is the largest city in western Croatia, known for its multitude of ancient Roman buildings, the most famous of which is the Arena, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres. A very nice copy.
