TROMPE L’OEIL. PETIT, K. E. von. Quod Libet. Water-colour gouache on a painted cork background composed of fifteen billets ‘secured’ by two red ribbons. Signed and dated Heigermos, 25 July 1798, Carl. Heigermos, 1798. Broadside, 240 x 370 mm, on laid paper (no paper mark), water colour gouache and ink, secured on black backing paper.
A charming and very skilfully produced trompe-l’oeil friendship broadside, including proverbs, riddles and billets doux and little sketches, all ‘secured’ by two ribbons afixed to the drawn cork board. The little billets also include a blackboard, a little card similar to a Biedermeier movable card, little watercolour sketches and manuscript notes on either side in the bottom margin, both in German and Italian. One of the little cards is signed and dated Heigermos, 25 July 1798, Carl. Heigermos is a municipality near Salzburg in Austria. A charming survival in the tradition of the friendship album.
