* Rare edition of the Dutch translation of the famous "Narrenschiff" of the German humanist S. Brant (1458-1521), first published Basel, 1494. Illustrated with engraving of the Ship of Fools on title and oval author's portrait, and 105 large woodcuts showing a wide variety of fools coming from all trades, professions and social classes. The amusing woodcuts are drawn after earlier Basel & Strasbourg editions. Title in red & black. Text in roman and gothic type. Missing leaf P4 (holding 2nd regiser leaf and "Het besluyt deses boecx", provided in later ms. copy). Upper corner of leaf P3 torn off and strengthened with later paper piece with missing letters in ms. Some minor, light browning or foxing, but overall a desirable very well-preserved copy of this rare classic.
