One of the earliest German-language exile novels and one of the first literary eyewitness accounts of Nazi Germany, published in Amsterdam only months after Hitler’s rise to power. Heinz Liepman’s documentary novel describes (in 1933 !) the rapid transformation of Hamburg through political terror, antisemitism, SA violence and the establishment of the first concentration camps.
