First edition, a reworked and updated version of the author’s earlier Elements of German Grammar (1774). The additions include a practical section of dialogues at the end (‘On the arrival of a foreigner in London’, etc.), plus some further reading, namely extracts from Lessing, Der Freigeist, Gellert, Moralische Vorlesungen, letters in German which Wendeborn has translated himself from The Spectator (‘A beginner, who will translate them, as exercises, into English again, may afterwards correct his translation by means of the original, and thus improve himself in the language’, p. 197), and verse, by Gellert and Hagedorn.
