A double portrait of two Kabuki actors, one of whom is dressed as a geisha. Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII as Tobi-no-mono Omatsuri Kingorô and Bandô Shûka I as the geisha Gaku no Kosan. Ôban tate-e format. 35.5 x 24 cm. Edo (Tokyo), after 1852.
The woodcut depicts a couple facing each other beneath a full moon, accompanied on the left by calligraphic kanji lettering rendered in white within a black circle at the top. – Mounted on the reverse side on Japanese handmade paper with Japanese calligraphy. With tiny tears and discolouration at the edges.
