Ink annotations in the margins, mostly in the beginnning. Stain in upper margin, slight paper jam on pp. 314-315. Contemporary vellum, spine with handwritten title in ink. Owner’s signatures of Johannes Eurenius ”Ex libris fuit J. Eurenii Inscectores rectigal: Hernos”, H. Sjögren and Ingemar Brohed (with pen) and two older erased.
Ter Meulen 571. This is an important edition of Grotius’ main work. It’s based on the printings of 1631 and 1632 but revised by the author, the last edition produced under Grotius’ lifetime and with his final notes and corrections. ”Grotius a ajouté dans l’édition de 1642 entre autres, à la fin de chaque chapitre, un grand nombre de notes importantes, les deux citations des vies de Louis IX, roi de France, et les annotations à l’épitre de S. Paul à Philemon.” (Ter Meulen p. 231). ”De jure belli ac pacis” is the main work of the founder of international law Hugo Grotius (1583-1645) and it was ”the first attempt to lay down a principle of right, and a basis for society and government, outside church and scripture" (PMM 125). The first edition was published in 1625. Johannes (Jöns) Eurenius (1688-1751) blev efter studier i Uppsala magister 1716. År 1719 utnämdes han till konrektor vid Härnösands skola och 1725 blev han kyrkoherde i Torsåker i Ångermanland. Mest känd har Eurenius blivit genom verket "Atlantica orientalis, eller Atlandsnäs till dess rätta läge beskrifvit" i vilken han bekämpade Olof Rudbeck d.ä:s åsikter om Atlantis, vilket Eurenius förlade till Palestina. Sjögren kan mycket väl vara lexikografen och prästen Håkan Sjögren (1727-1815), vars latinsk-svenska och svensk-latinska handlexikon från 1775 länge var standardverk. Ingmar Brohed (1940-2019) var teolog och professor i kyrkohistoria i Lund.
