VD16 H407. Adams H30. Graesse III, 203. Carlander III, pp. 564ff. First edition of this beautifully illustrated chronicle of the house of Oldenburg one of Europe’s most significant royal houses, with branches that rule or have ruled in Denmark, Greece, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Schleswig, Holstein, and, of course, Oldenburg. Herman Hamelmann (1526-95) was a Lutheran theologian and historian. After his death, the work was concluded by Anton Hering and Hermann Neuwald. Probably a presentation copy, with the coat of arms of Oldenburg-Delmenhorst on the boards. The signature is probably by Catharine Rantzau (1590-1655) who in 1607 married Henrik Rantzau. The underlinings at the end concern Daniel Rantzau (1529-69) and the Nordic Seven Years’ War where Daniel Rantzau commanded the Danish forces against Sweden.
