Fine copy of the second edition of Elizabeth Benger’s influential biography of the unhappy second wife of Henry VIII. The first edition was published in the same year. Both the plates are depicting Anne Boleyn and are engraved after originals by Hans Holbein. Elizabeth Ogilvy Benger (1775-1827) was an English author of novels and biographies. Mme de Staël said that she was the most interesting woman she had seen in England. After writing poetry with a social message she successfully turned to writing biographies, and between 1818 and 1825 she published apart from Anne Boleyn also biographies of Elizabeth Hamilton, John Tobin, Elizabeth of Bohemia and Mary, Queen of Scots.
