Despite a severe paper shortage immediately following World War I, “Wolff was able to use genuine laid paper for this fourth book in the new series of Drugulin-Drucke, on which the letters appear sharply defined. Featuring a two-color title page and partially bound in half calf, 'In der Strafkolonie' consistently continues, in terms of its presentation, the line of Kafka’s 'major' books that began with 'Betrachtungen', all of which have thus appeared as bibliophile editions” (Dietz).
