251)Missal leaf Illuminated single leaf on parchment from a Missal Germany, probably Nurenberg, dating back to the beginning of the 16th century. Dimensions 355 x250 mm. about. Writing space 255 x 175 mm. Gothic text on a double column of 19 lines in red and black ink. The decoration includes a large red T with a border filled with flowers, animals and, at the bottom, some people adoring the Virgin, on the left the men and on the right the women with a scroll that reads "ora pro fratribus et pro soros". Traces of use and light abrasions. The miniature undoubtedly belongs to the Nuremberg School of art of the early 16th century, and the kneeling family members, divided symmetrically between men and women before the "Virgin Lactans," recall the kneeling administrators in the "Book of Hospital Foundations" of the city of Nuremberg, 1503, attributed to the workshop of the Schreyer Master. The Schreyer Master, author of the decorations of the printed book Bamberg Missal, takes his name from the wealthy merchant Sebald Schreyer (1446-1520), who commissioned numerous works. The border of our miniature, however, should be attributed to a different artist, closer to the brothers Albrecht and Nikolaus Glockendon, who often included decorations borrowed from the Flemish school, such as in the breviary called the Glockendon Missal (Nuremberg, 1521-548). The refined border derives from the so-called Ghent-Bruges school, which refers to the stylistic movement active in East Flanders between 1475 and 1550 and which is characterised by the representation of floral motifs in relief as if they had just fallen onto the paper.
