Page 245 misnumbered 265, page 579 misnumbered 597. Some staining on text at p. 382-383. Light foxing occur. Old dampstain at upper and lower margins occur sporadically. Slightly heavier at lower margin on pp. 9/10-15/16, 89/90-91/92, 157/158-159/160, 629/630-635/636.Old signature ‘F. Nejerj (?) Heidelb[er]gensis’ on title. Fourth edition [first edition printed in 1563] of this attempt to calm the witch-craze that started in Europe at the time, started by the infamous withhunter book 'Malleus Maieficarum'. Weyer [1515-86] - a protestant physician from the Netherlands - insisted that a medical perspective must be taken in consideration in accusations of witchcraft, as the person accused simply could be depressed or mentally ill, not in cahoots with the Devil. On the other hand, he also insisted that witchcraft did indeed exist, and advocated for more severe punishment to true male witches. His work was printed and read a lot, but sadly he could not stem the tide of witch burnings gaining momentum in the next century or so.
